Mold

Mold / Mycotoxins

Sick at home?  Well away?

Molds and mycotoxins indoors from growth on damp surfaces especially within walls, on the inner paper layer of wall board escape into air.  Mold toxins disturb brain function while irritating mucous membranes. There may be streaks of blood in sputum and blood in the urine or feces.  Affected people may feel better after leaving the premises, usually home. They may feel entirely well in a day or two, but their problems recur when they return home.  Persons affected by mold/mycotoxins feel fatigued, depressed, and aged.

Asthma, eye weeping and noses irritated, headaches, fatigue, memory gaps, inability to recall, dizziness, and unsteady balance at home were associated with musty odors and black molds growing on indoor walls, beginning about 2000.  Testing of 110 adults and 25 children living in these homes showed impaired balance, slowed reaction time responses, impaired color vision, a striking degree of impairment of peripheral vision, difficulty solving problems, remembering recent new information and seeing what’s missing in pictures of commonplace scenes.  If these problems bother you check for molds growing on walls, under carpets, behind shower curtains, in entry hall, closets, and crawl spaces.

We hear concerns about less-active children who sit and watch, rather then play, rubbing their eyes, pulling on their noses and limping.  Sometimes their noses bleed and their hearing seems decreased. Mothers know it is not flu, because it does not get better but slowly gets worse.  Mothers notice their own eyes, noses and throats burning, irritability and impatience, forgetting appointments, getting groceries but not what they went for.  They feel depressed and angry without reason.  The physicians they have consulted are rarely helpful, although once in awhile, they advise patients to leave home and live elsewhere.

Leaving the home, avoiding exposures brings some relief of symptoms, but impairment persists.  Most physicians do not connect these problems to mold and their toxic agents, called mycotoxins.  To determine if you have mold/mycotoxicity takes special testing. Neuro-Test has pioneered investigation of this problem and your evaluation is compared to testing of over 110 affected adults and 25 children compared to 300 adults and 150 children unexposed to these other toxins.
